A short story

Axel Kentsch is an extraordinary artist... “I’ve been painting every since I can remember but my creative interest developed when I was about 16” Art has followed Axel since his teenage years. Since his childhood he has been experimenting with colour and their compositions. He let his intuition have a free run, even when it was ‘only’ the staircase wall. There were two hearts beating in his breast … one for medicine … the other for Art. Early in his career he decided to focus on Medicine. When in 1982, he concluded to concentrate on Art it so happened that he was offered a very significant opportunity in orthopedics in Zürich. Once again Medicine took the upper hand …. yet he never lost sight of the arts. In 2001 he was broadsided with the diagnosis of Parkinson’s. As a doctor it was clear that the prognosis is … incurable. He tried to combine his profession with his illness but found that he had no more time or strength for painting.

Having been thrown off track by his destiny he turned his back on Medicine finally on 31st January, 2008. He moved to Mallorca to concentrate fully on his painting. In 2016 with the restauration and extension of an old carpenter’s building with spacious adjoining studio and loft, Axel Kentsch succeeds in fulfilling a life’s dream in the picturesque rural setting in the village of Es Carritxo. Inspiration and obsession are the sources of his creations. His unique paintings are the unmistakable footprint of his style of work. Over many years whilst exploring further techniques, he added sculpture to his spectrum. Axel Kentsch participated in various exhibitions in Germany and on Mallorca. In the ‘cult’ restaurant Viena, his permanent exhibition adds to the unique atmosphere. “A great picture will capture you and never let you go.”
